Our Lead Counselor & Founder
Luis Jr Munguia Rivera, M.S.
My counseling philosophy is inspired by my personal experiences and theoretical framework, which drives my passion for working with diverse students. As a first-generation, queer, immigrant student of color, the core of my vocation is serving diverse populations with a holistic approach, ensuring intellectual, emotional, and social growth in a fostering and safe learning environment. In my practice, I believe it is essential that counselors holistically understand the student as a whole, including their state of emotion, relationships, skills, and expectations of self, higher education, and career. This holistic approach ensures growth in a wide range of areas.
I frequently use Sanford's theory of Challenge and Support as a framework when helping many of my students. My approach is to recognize the unique place each student is at and actively motivate and push them towards growth while lending a helping hand along their developmental journey.
