Upper-Division Transfer
(No Degree) Pathway
Upper-Division Transfer is a popular transfer pathway that allows students to complete the first half of their undergraduate studies (60 units) at their local community college and transfer with junior standing to a four-year university to complete the second half of their studies (60 to about 120 units) and earn a bachelor’s degree.

Students who want to pursue an Upper-Division Transfer without earning a degree at a community college will focus on completing the transfer admissions requirements for the university of their choice and will complete some general education courses. The main difference between the no-degree and degree pathways is that pursuing any degree will require completing multiple major education courses plus satisfying any other requirements set by the college to earn that degree.

Transferable Units

60 transferable units are the minimum accepted by most four-year universities for Upper-Division Transfer, but CSUs and UCs accept up to 70 transferable units. Private colleges and universities tend to have more flexible admission requirements, often allowing more than 70 transferable units.
General Education
The minimum general education requirements for Upper-Division Transfer (No Degree) Pathway include the Golden 4 for CSU transfer and the 7 Course Pattern for UC transfer. Students pursuing Upper-Division transfer with a degree do not have to worry about completing these courses, as they are embedded in Cal-GETC, which must be completed in its entirety for successful transfer.
